Simply Summer

Summer is quickly approaching. While most of us will begin to favour lighter clothing, less layers and diaphanous materials, we can make up for it with a simple but bold piece.

Using nothing more than rock crystal quartz and a handmade and lightweight aluminum chain, this necklace is a great accessory for something as basic as a white t-shirt or perfect to wear with a dress on a night out.

OMNT…Boulder Opal Rondelle Bib Necklace

I’ve had a strand of graduated rondelle beads forever. I’ve left them until now because stringing them would be way too simple. After brainstorming and sketching some ideas, I finally found a solution that has made me happy. This kind of rondelle shape can feel limiting due to their center drilled hole. To get around this, I’ve used silver wire to turn each bead into a drop, giving the opportunity for the opal that threads through these beads to get the most exposure. The inclusions of vibrant opal are mostly very subtle, so a bright lamp work disc brings out the colour without taking away from the star of this piece.

MANEWELRY MONDAY

Our first piece in this new series is a deceptively large cuff(that blue kyanite bead is 1.5″ high!). It’s paired with turquoise chips, Bali silver, and copper. There is no elasticity to the bracelet so it closes easily with a simple magnetic clasp.

SUCCESSFUL DESIGN CONCEPTS

SUCCESSFUL DESIGN CONCEPTS

As a designer, there are few things that are as exciting as coming up with an idea and discovering that the final product matches the original sketch.

These are the first official pieces of 2013 and I’m happy to see the year is starting off well.

Using recycled resin spikes(never underestimate the value of sample sales for supplies), faceted turquoise teardrops, red jasper, coral, bali silver and oodles of silver chain, these two necklaces work wonderfully alone or together.

The Chameleon

The Chameleon

I thought it would be a fun idea to make a necklace that can be worn many ways. Here we have the convertible necklace. I’ve already discovered 9 different ways to wear this piece, changing it from casual to dressy with a few simple adjustments. I can’t wait to see where I will take this one after the prototype turned out so well.

This necklace will be available at Sanavita. Read more about their great store here… http://www.sanavita.ca

On my neck today…

Two of my favourite delicate and lightweight necklaces, both made from turquoise(a mixture of Iranian and Tibetan), have been layered to create a cascade of silver with a pop of colour.
